The Real World Road Rules Challenge: The Island
MTV has decided to take its tired Real World Road Rules Challenge format and tweak it a bit. For the 16th installment, which debuted last night, the contestants, a mix of Real World and Road Rules veterans and rookies, compete for a cash prize of $300,000.
That in itself is nothing new, but what’s different this time is the fact that there are no teams- it’s every man for himself. There are no challenges either, just “Face-Offs” and public votes.
The Challenge shows have gotten tedious over the years, as they have basically turned into popularity contests with longtimers voting out the newbies. This season, instead of living in a plush resort, the contestants are roughing it, ala “Survivor” style.
There are quite a few new players on this challenge, from recent Real World casts. Veteran players Tonya and Abram are on board, as well as Evelyn and Scott Baio-lookalike Kenny from the Fresh Meat challenges.
Let’s hope this new format spices things up.
