When I was growing up, it just wasn’t Halloween until the classic holiday special “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” aired on CBS. Of course this was before VCR’s and DVD’s and endless airings on cable. The Charlie Brown Halloween was a once a year special and I loved it.

Who can forget Linus sitting alone in the pumpkin patch all night waiting for……well what was he waiting for anyway?

This classic carton first aired in 1966 and since then it’s been seen- and loved- by millions of people all over the world. I recorded “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” on our DVR last fall and my kids have watched it many times since then. My son especially cracks up at the part when Charlie Brown gets rocks in his Halloween treat bag. Poor Charlie Brown!

And even though Lucy acts like a witch- and dresses up like one for Halloween- there’s a touching scene at the end of this show when she goes out to the pumpkin patch to find her brother Linus and then tucks him into bed.

Truly a pop culture classic!
