Popcultured Blast from the Past: Little House on the Prairie

In the 1970’s, there was a great little TV show about the 1800’s. “Little House on the Prairie” was based on the classic books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It starred Michael Landon as Pa Ingalls. Karen Grassle as Ma, Melissa Sue Anderson as older sister Mary, and a young Melissa Gilbert as Laura.

Even though some of the storylines were grim (fires, blindness, babies dying) the early years of the show were more light-hearted. An ongoing feud between Laura and arch nemesis Nellie Olsen (played to perfection by Allison Arngrim) was right up my ally in 1974.

Little House was a wholesome show that had appeal for  the whole family. It is currently in syndication and airs on the Hallmark Channel.
